The archipelago of the Aeolian Islands is located north of the Sicilian coast, belongs to the province of Messina and in 2000 was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is formed by seven volcanic islands in some of which there is still a fairly good volcanic activity. The largest island is Lipari, followed by Salina. The smallest, Panarea, is also the most exclusive island, preferred by the VIPs.
