The Church of St Benedict was built in the 18th century and is located in Via dei Crociferi, in memory of St Benedict of Norcia.

The building is famous for the Angel’s Staircase, a marble entrance staircase depicting angels. The staircase is surrounded by a beautiful wrought iron gate. The entrance door is made of wood and the panels depict scenes from the life of St Benedict. The church is part of the Benedictine nuns’ convent complex, which also includes the abbey major and abbey minor connected by a covered bridge over Via dei Crociferi.

Inside the church, you can admire frescoes by Sebastiano Lo Monaco, Giovanni Tuccari and Matteo Desiderato. The building has one nave and a vault completely frescoed with scenes from the life of St Benedict.

Since April 2013, the church can be visited as part of a guided tour that also includes the remains of a Roman Domus found during the latest restoration work, the 18th-century parlour of the cloistered convent and the Stairway of Angels. Inside, the nuns of St Benedict live the monastic life marked by prayer and the silence of reflection. Always willing to welcome and share their experience with those who wish, with their singing they accompany the final part of the procession of Saint Agatha (on the morning of 6 February) and the processional route of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows on the evening of Good Friday.
