The Museo dei Saperi e delle Mirabilia Siciliane (Museum of Sicilian Knowledge and Mirabilia) is a museum located in Catania, Piazza Università 2, inside the University’s Central Building and whose Scientific Director is Professor Germana Barone.

The focus of the collection is to be able to valorise and make usable the heritage of knowledge achieved through the centenary research activity of the city’s University.

Inside, it is possible to visit an exhibition of collections, portraits and also testimonies of the University’s leading personalities. In addition, more archaeological finds, ceramics, documents and parchments, anatomical exhibits, stuffed animals and much, much more will be on display in the museum structures that existed before it. We are talking about the Benedictine Monastery, the Botanical Garden, the Museum of Zoology and the Butterfly House, Villa Zingali Tetto, the Biological Tower and the City of Science.

DReAMIn Project

There is the ‘DReAMIn – Digital REmote Access to Museums and research Infrastructures’ project, thanks to which it has been possible to digitise part of the assets belonging to this immense heritage.

If you don’t want to miss anything, however, admission is free from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. visits for groups are possible and only by prior booking (at least 48 hours in advance).
