Giardini Naxos is located in the province of Messina, in an area just a short distance from the beautiful Taormina, on a flat, coastal strip of land.
Today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Sicilian island, but think that until the 1970s it was simply a small, quiet fishing village!
Its beaches have both fine sand and fine gravel and the seabed is slightly sloping.
The most famous is Recanati beach, known for its lidos and discos, making it a favourite destination for young people looking for fun.
Schisò beach is also known for its deep beauty and golden sand, while Porticciolo Saia is characterised by bays of lava rocks, perfect for relaxing afternoons.
The place also has a strong historical character and archaeological importance.
The Nike, which is its symbol, was made by Carmelo Mendola in 1965 and symbolises the twinning with Chalkida Eubea. The historical centre is characterised by historical squares and streets, such as Piazza Abate Cacciola and Via delle Rimembranze.
Let us now return for a moment to the Schisò area.
The Castle of Schisò (inhabited in both the Norman and Spanish periods) is now uninhabited, but there is still part of the archaeological site that is worth a visit: in the 5th century B.C. it was in fact a place populated by colonists where a very important sanctuary stood, most probably dedicated to Aphrodite.
If you are an excursion lover, know that Giardini Naxos is an excellent starting point: you can choose Taormina, the Alcantara Gorges, the Riviera dei Ciclopi, the volcano Etna or horseback riding on the beach.
If you are a professional clubber, you are in the right place. Giardini Naxos is famous for its clubs that stay open until late at night, where you can dance and drink amazing cocktails and have aperitifs in time to the music.
