Located along the beautiful eastern coast of Sicily, Giardini Naxos is a tourist resort that blends ancient history, breathtaking scenery, and authentic Sicilian hospitality.
Founded in 734 B.C. by Greek settlers from nearby Naxos, it is one of the oldest sites in Sicily. The city has hosted several civilizations over the centuries, including Romans and Byzantines, helping to create a unique and fascinating cultural heritage. Today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Sicilian island, but until the 1970s it was simply a small, quiet fishing village.
Among the major attractions, the Ancient Greek Theater overlooking the sea still hosts cultural events and performances.
The beautiful beaches of Giardini Naxos offer crystal-clear waters and golden sand, perfect for relaxing under the Sicilian sun.
The most famous is Recanati beach, known for its lidos and discos, making it a favorite destination for young people looking for fun.
Schisò beach is also known for its deep beauty and golden sand, while Porticciolo Saia features bays of lava rocks, perfect for relaxing afternoons.
Giardini Naxos also has a strong historical character and archaeological importance.
Realised by Carmelo Mendola in 1965, the work of art Nike of Kalkis represents the symbol of the city, as well as its twinning with Chalkida Euboea. The centre is characterised by historical squares and streets, such as Piazza Abate Cacciola and Via delle Rimembranze.
The Castle of Schisò (inhabited in both the Norman and Spanish periods) is now uninhabited, but part of the archaeological site remains worth a visit: in the 5th century B.C., colonists populated the Castle, where a very important sanctuary stood, most probably dedicated to Aphrodite.
For excursion lovers, Giardini Naxos is an excellent starting point: Taormina, the Alcantara Gorges, the Riviera dei Ciclopi, the volcano Etna or horse riding on the beach are some of the easily accessible destinations.
Giardini Naxos, finally, in the summer season is famous for its disco and clubs, where you can dance and drink amazing cocktails and have sunset aperitifs to the rhythm of music.
