The island of Favignana is a small corner of paradise that is part of the Egadi Islands archipelago, in the province of Trapani. It is very easy to reach from the city, using the numerous ferries and hydrofoils of the Siremar and Liberty Lines companies.
Favignana is undoubtedly a place famous for its beauty and peace, so don’t expect to find discos and worldly places here, just plenty of unspoilt nature, dream beaches and crystal clear water.
Everything seems to be shrouded in an almost surreal aura of serenity, which will probably confuse you to such an extent that you will think you are on some atoll on the other side of the globe. In reality, it is inhabited by some 4300 people who, in addition to tuna fishing (for which it is known), run the various activities in the area. We are talking about bars, restaurants and shops spread over an area of 37 square kilometres.
Among the tourists’ favourite activities is definitely diving, but for land lovers we certainly recommend a visit to the tuff caves, the Castle of Santa Caterina and the archaeological region of San Nicola. Unmissable beaches, on the other hand, are Cala Rossa and Cala Azzurra.
Food is another reason to visit the island. Seafood lovers will be in for a treat as, being an island that bases its business mainly on fishing, they can sample a whole range of dishes, including pizzas, made from the catch of the day. However, those who may not be fans of this food can rest assured: almonds, pistachios and tasty desserts await them!
